Emeritus Professor Tim Mays, Founding Director and Principal Investigator of UK-HyRES, served on the Steering Committee of the IChemE/AIChE conference on Hydrogen Innovation & Technology, held in Manchester on 14-15 October 2026.
The conference is part of the alliance between the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), which supports the adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier for industry and transport. It was designed to bring together practitioners, researchers, regulators and policy makers to look at how hydrogen is moving from ambition to deployment.
Themes for the conference included hydrogen production and scale-up, applications, distribution and storage, and policy, markets and investment. Cross-cutting topics included safety, permitting, supply chains and skills.
Professor Mays is Emeritus Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Bath. He remains involved in research on sustainable hydrogen energy and is also founding Director and Principal Investigator of the EPSRC-funded GW-SHIFT programme.
